Emergency Preparedness For Pets……

Hurricane season is here and San Juan Animal Hospital wants you prepared for bad weather and pet safety.

Follow these tips to make an emergency plan for your pets:
  • Microchip your pets. …Emergency kit list
  • Keep a collar and tag on all cats and dogs. …
  • Plan a pet-friendly place to stay. …
  • Prepare an emergency kit for each animal. …
  • Plan for temporary confinement. …
  • Comfort your animals. …
  • Know where to search for lost animals.
  • Have your pets vaccine & medication records
  • Have a photo of your petsA Disaster Preparedness Check List
    • Food & water – a 3 day supply for each pet
    • Bowls – non-spill
    • Litter, scooper & disposable bags
    • Treats & toys, collars & leashes
    • Blanket, towel, or newspaper for warmth
    • Photos of pet – recent, color, clear copies
    • Pet carrier or crate for each pet labeled with pet’s name, ID, special instructions
    • Name, address & phone number of veterinarian & local animal shelter.
    • List of people to contact to take care of the animal – include cell numbers
    • Copy of vaccination and medical records. Keep vaccines current!
    • Keep photos & other information in a Ziploc bag taped on side of carrier.
    • Extra medications with instructions
    • Rabies License
      • All pets must have proof of vaccination and registration, be properly crated or caged and be maintained by their owners. Animals may be housed in a separate room from their owners. Click here to learn more about licensing your pet.First Aid Kit for Pets:
